BRUT NATURE BLANC 2018 – 89 PP

The citrus-colored 2018 Brut Nature Blanc, disgorged in November 2020, is clear and intense on the nose that shows ripe and quite intense fruit with sur lie aromas. Dry, very fresh and vibrant on the yeasty yet not really refined palate, this is a refreshing sparkling Chardonnay that is somewhat acidic. 12.5% stated alcohol.

RIESLING SYLVANER SCHIEFER 2020 – 89 PP

Sourced from slate soils, Obrecht’s golden-orange colored 2020 Riesling Sylvaner Schiefer shows an intense, pretty “natural” bouquet of ripe seed fruits with floral and herbal notes. Lean and elegant on the palate, this is a bone-dry, herbal and finely fruity Müller-Thurgau with a delicate, finely grippy and aromatic finish. This biodynamic natural wine was fermented in a large old oak fuder and aged in round clay vats. It is a delicate aperitif and a wine for lighter dishes. 10.8% stated alcohol. Natural cork.

CHARDONNAY 2019 –  90 PP

Obrecht’s yellow-golden colored 2019 Chardonnay offers an intense and elegant, slightly oaky bouquet of ripe and concentrated fruit aromas intertwined with notes of crushed stones and a certain reduction. Full-bodied, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a rich and intense, quite ripe and mouth-filling Chardonnay with a tight structure, very good substance and a somewhat animal and astringent finish. It probably needs a bit more time to gain finesse. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in Zurich in February 2022.2023 – 2030, Stephan Reinhardt, Issue Date 24th Mar 2022, March 2022 Week 3, The Wine AdvocateCOMPLETER 2018 – 90 PPThe golden-colored 2018 Completer is intense and concentrated on the refined and flinty as well as oaky nose that intermingles concentrated fruit aromas with flinty notes. Full-bodied, intense and concentrated but still pretty tight and tannic on the palate, this is a rich Completer that has finesse and concentration but is still caged by its oaky and astringent tannins and is pretty drying on the intense and powerful finish. 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork.

OBRECHT BRUT ROSÉ – 92 PP
Obrecht’s NV Brut Rosé, disgorged in August 2021 after 20 months sur lattes, is a cuvée of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The salmon-colored sparkling wine offers an intense and vinous bouquet of red fruits, crushed stones and brioche. Supple and intense yet also refined and fresh on the palate, this is a complex and mouth-filling rosé with fine tannins, which makes this an excellent food partner. Promising. 12.5% stated alcohol. Tasted in Zurich in February 2022.

MONOLITH Pinot Noir 2019 – 94 PP
Obrecht’s 2019 Pinot Noir Monolith opens with a fascinating, intense yet also refined, fresh, pure and elegant, immediately alluring nose of ripe fruits (wild strawberries, ripe black berries and black cherries) and super elegant terroir notes of lime and schist. Pure, finessed and enormously vital in the mouth, with very fine tannins and crystalline, mineral acidity, this is a complex and seamlessly textured, perfectly balanced Pinot from vines almost 60 years old on calcareous, weathered slate soils in Jenins and Malans. The finish is pure, refined and perfectly balanced between the austerity of terroir structure and this amazing finessed and silky Pinot fruit. It is most probably the finest Monolith I have tasted so far. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork.
